A Better Fate

I wanted to leave this place,

I wanted to be gone.

I was scared in the dark

And knew that it was wrong.

It was like being in a cage

Without hope of escape.

My panic rose to claim me

And I shut it out.

I was shaking all over

And I couldn’t stop.

I counted to five

And fled the scene

All I really wanted to do was scream

I needed a release from my hate

I was starting to doubt if life would be a better fate.
